Winter Fashion: Layering

Winter time is here! Your closet is probably now filled with sweaters, sweater dresses, thick knit tights, winter jackets, and so on.

One of the most difficult part of the winter season is figuring out how to stay warm but still looking nice and stylish. Some would not be as willing to sacrifice their warmth just to look stylish, so the easiest thing to do is to just pile on clothing and get it over with.

But there's really no need to sacrifice. There are easy ways to layer clothing - keeping you nice and warm, but still looking pretty and stylish.

I've come up with three scenarios:

SCENARIO ONE: It's the weekend. It too cold to go outside, but you really want to go to the mall, and besides, its just nearby. Or you really want to try this new restaurant everyone has been raving about, its just a few block away. Although you are only going a short distance to your house, its no excuse to go out almost in your pajamas. Your destination may be nearby, but no one knows that but you.

Start off with a tank top and some legging - This will be the first layer. Then add a long flowy cardigan over the tank to create some dimension. The Third layer will be to add a thick knit sweater. These three layers should really give you a lot of warmth, but finish off with a fur vest to give you additional warmth, but still looking really chi. The red bag should give you a little pop of color, plus keep the jewelry to a minimum. The neutral short combat lace-up should give a ton of comfort for walking around.

SCENARIO TWO: It's the work week again. You work in a casual setting where you don't need to wear office attire all the time. You have meetings all day long, and you have to run in and out of the office.

Start off with a tank top and some jeans. I really like adding a tank as a first layer because it add warmth to your body, but none of the bulk. Then add a flowy shirt - if you have a shirt with some cute detailing in front, all the better (tuck in the short so it looks more polished). Then add a vest with some interesting embellishment or detailing to it. It'll be a smart and stylish layer to add - then belt it up for definition. Finally add your favorite leather or faux leather jacket, coupled with a light colored scarf and some modest height heeled ankle boot.

SCENARIO THREE: Date night! Ugh, but its so cold... how to dress to impress....??

Again, start off with your trusty tank, plus a good warm tights. This first layer will only work if your dress can hide the tank underneath. Then put on your dress, I like flowy dresses. Where's the warmth? Add a really nice dressy blazer or jacket (but nothing too bulky, something you'd wear on a summer night) - I chose a sequin cardigan. Final outer layer is a fur coat. I just love fur coats for dressier occasions. Pair it with a dangly earrings (that's it for the jewelry), a nice pop color small bagette, and a high-heel bootie.

Hope this helps someone with winter time layering dilemmas.

Fall Photography

I love taking pictures during the fall season... all the different colors of the leaves, to me, gives the tree so much more life than when its green.

During fall, I always make it a point to visit the park at least one time just to take it all in.

Here are a couple of photographs I took. I'm not by any means a professional, but some of the shots I thought came out pretty good (to my eyes) and I would like to share a couple of them here.

Wholesale-dress.net Winter Shopping Picks

It has been so very cold here in New York lately and I finally needed to wear sweaters. I realized though that I didn't have a lot of cute sweaters - most of them I've had since 3 years ago and haven't really bought new ones since.

I went to Forever 21 and H&M to pick out some stuff but didn't really find a lot of cute ones. I only picked out a stripe cardigan from Forever 21.

So I decided to try out this website called wholesale-dress.net. They are a fashion clothing store directly from China who sells clothing for "wholesale" price. In my opinion, they're not really wholesale prices (since I've worked for fashion importing companies, I know the prices) but they are way cheaper than when you get them in stores here in the US, so I was happy regardless.

I ordered yesterday (Thursday) so I want to check out to see how long it takes for them to process everything. I will post an update.

I found the shipping to be so so high! It's almost the same amount as my entire purchase. If it were lower, I would've picked out a couple more stuff. I had to take out a couple of things, only because I haven't done my Christmas shopping yet...

Anyway, here are the things I picked up. I will do a follow-up post so to show comparison between their catalog photos and the real pieces.

All in all I spend $104 and change for 11 items... not bad.. not bad at all

Turtleneck Sweater Dress

I'm absolutely in love with this. I hope this comes out to be exactly like the photograph. And how about that price!

I'm very excited to receive my package. Hopefully they come out to be exactly like the photos.

Hope you enjoy as much as I did!

My Pick from the William Rast for Target

I ♥ the William Rast for Target collection... I had faith in them... =)

The collection will hit stores starting December 19 and will only be available til' January 22 - quite a short duration. But my bet would be the pieces wouldn't even last until January. I thought the pieces from the collection is very wearable that will appeal to a lot of people. Not to mention - Justin Timberlake!

The entire collection also features some men's pieces which are also pretty good. I think they stayed true to the William Rast concept - which is pretty great.

Here are my top picks!

Tank-$35 ; Jacket-$45 ; Leather Shorts-$40
Plain Tee-$20 ; Military Jacket-$60 ; Jeggings-$40
Silk Blouse-$35 ; Ponte Leggings $40
Plaid Shirt-$35 ; Sweatshirt-$30 ; Jeggings-$40
Tunic-$35 ; Ponte Vest-$40
Grey Tank-$27 ; Silk Blouse-$35 ; Skinny Jeans-$49

The model kept wearing the same studded oxfords but I'm not quite sure if this is included... it's kinda cute, hopefully its included.

If you;d like to see the entire collection, head over to Target
